Cong MLA blames KPCC leadership for poor performance

Last Updated 29 May 2011, 14:52 IST

"There had been lapses on Kerala PCC's part in selection of candidates for the polls as well as choice of ministers. KPCC leadership owes an explanation," T N Prathapan said.

UDF could not put up a good performance. Even after that ability and competence were not given due weightage in the selection of the cabinet nominees, he said at Thrissur.

KPCC did not give due consideration to 'winnability' factor, the three time MLA said.

Prathapan's criticism comes in the wake of senior leader V S Sudheeran voicing reservation over non-inclusion of party MLA V D Satheesan in the cabinet glossing over his impressive performance as an opposition member in the previous assembly.

The KPCC leadership meet to be held soon is expected to be stormy against the backdrop of sharp criticism aired by some quarters in the Congress over these issues.

Meanwhile, the UDF state committee will be meeting here tomorrow to decide on the combine's candidates for the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.According to Congress sources, senior party MLA G Karthikeyan is the front-runner for the post of Speaker.

Considering the slim majority UDF has in the 140-member House, the role of Speaker is considered vital.

UDF had secured 72 seats in the polls.
