Boost in container traffic

 Jindal Waterways was the one to start the container feeder service at NMPT with the arrival of M V Jindal Tara on July 27.

The vessel sailed out after discharging 70 TEUs of coastal containers within 4 hours. The vessel is proposed to run in the Pipavav-Mangalore-Cochin route regularly. The container traffic at the port is showing upward trend since more exporters and importers started moving their cargo. The port has handled 11,500 TEUs so far this year as against 8,814 TEUs handled during the corresponding period of last year and registered a growth of 30 per cent.
