2 convicts get RI

Mahesh and his mother of K R Nagar were allegedly torturing latter’s wife Vedavathi, suspecting her fidelity. On September 27, 2008, Vedavathi had committed suicide after dousing self with kerosene, and setting ablaze.

She had been admitted to a hospital here, where she succumbed on October 2. A case had been registered and the chargesheet had been submitted to the court.

The court has imposed a fine of  ` 5,000 and has ordered him to undergo additional imprisonment of six months, if failed to pay the fine amount in lieu there of, said a release from public prosecutor VB Nayak.

In another case, a man has been awarded three months rigorous imprisonment for making a bid to murder his wife and two children.

Nagaiah of Bettadapura in Periyapatna taluk in the District was angry over his wife Sarojamma moving court for alimony. Sarojamma in her appeal had contended that Nagaiah had married another woman, and hence required money to eke out living. Nagaiah in a fit of rage had torched the hut where Sarojamma and children were sleeping on July 25, 2009.

The Third Additional District and Sessions Court Judge C Chandramallegowda ordered the convict to undergo additional imprisonment of six months, if failed to pay the fine amount in lieu there of.
