Residents say that the permit required for mining sand is somehow obtained by the people who have political influence. These people mine sand more than the permit. On the other hand, there are equally good number of people engaged in mining activities without permit.

The Revenue Department raided such spots and seized several vehicles and sand.

However, the local residents allege that the sand thus seized is auctioned by the officials to the sand mafia.

The police personnel appointed at the Shiriya region say that lifting of sand has been stopped but the sand mining had stopped only during the day and the activities go on unabated during the night, say the residents. With the unholy nexus between the police and the sand mining parties, the exploitation of the nature is going on smoothly.
