State legislators to get hike in salary

The amendment also provides the status of the Government Chief Whip to the Opposition Chief Whip.

The salaries of the legislators will go up to Rs 10,000 per month from Rs 8,000, telephone allowance from Rs 7,500 to Rs 10,000 per month, constituency allowance from 3500 to Rs 15,000 per month.

The bill piloted by Minister for Law S Suresh Kumar also provides for enhancement of postal charges from Rs 1,000 to Rs 4,000 per month, salary of room boy from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 per month.

The pension has been enhanced three fold from Rs 5,000 per month to Rs 15,000 and maximum pension from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 per month.

The government has included a provision of payment of family pension for life of the dependent of the member and to reimburse actual travel expenses to former members in the first class, second class A/C for journeys by train within the country to a maximum of 35,000 KMs.

The salaries of Deputy Chairman,Deputy Speaker and government Chief whip has been hiked from Rs 8000 to Rs 10,000 per month and the sumptuary allowance from Rs 50,000 per annum to Rs 75,000 per annum.

The increase will cost the state exchequer Rs 17.34 crore annually.
