Karuna slams media for 'trying' to sever DMK-Cong ties

Last Updated 13 June 2011, 13:17 IST

"Of the 31 questions posed to me during the press conference at the end of DMK's High Power Committee on June 10, as many as 22 of them centred on the 2G spectrum allocation scam and its impact on DMK-Congress relations," he wrote in the party mouthpiece 'Murasoli'.

Karunanidhi alleged that the mediapersons had posed the questions with a view to get some critical comments against Congress and blow it up and create "confusion", in the ties and "somehow break the alliance".

The meeting, convened in the wake of Delhi High Court denying bail to Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi, an accused in the 2G case, decided against pulling out of the UPA but accused the CBI of adopting double standards.

Karunanidhi had then said he had nothing against the Congress, which is "not helping us" in the 2G issue.

In his statement today, he said if one noted the undercurrent of the questions, focusing on the relations between the two parties, one was made to wonder if this was media ethics.

"When copies of 10 resolutions passed were circulated among the mediapersons, none asked questions based on them. Imagine in what circumstances we have to function in future if so many questions centred on ties with Congress," he said.

He alleged that some scribes had decided among themselves to confine their questions on Congress-DMK ties and the rest could not do nothing about the "irritating questions".

Recalling his "journalist-friendly" approach, he said he had taken all care to implement welfare measures, including providing land at low cost, to scribes while in power.

"It is regrettable that journalists are behaving with us in a completely different manner," he rued.
