CAT orders status quo on DG post issue

Last Updated 13 June 2011, 17:01 IST

Hearing a petition filed by DG&IGP (Incharge) S T Ramesh, a bench headed by CAT vice-chairman N D Raghavan directed the State government to maintain status in view of a list of officers sent by Union Public Service Commission for the post.

Omission

Ramesh argued that he was omitted from the list that contained names of only two officers - Neelam Achyut Rao and D V Guruprasad.

Committee meet

Hence, the decisions of a high-level committee meeting headed by the Chief Minister to finalise the candidate for the post should  be stayed, Ramesh requested the Central Administrative Tribunal.

Hearing of the case was adjourned till Wednesday.  The tribunal had directed the State government to submit names and service records of all officers of DGP level to the Union Public Service Commission.  It had also directed the UPSC to finalise a list of eligible officers and send it back to the State government for appointment.
