Charan, Aishwarya triumph

In a fascinating title clash where fortunes swung wildly, Charan saw a 2-0 advantage disappear, and then watched on as Sunand levelled things up again at three games apiece before racing through the seventh and final game, in the end completing a dramatic 11-8, 11-7, 12-14, 8-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-2 victory.

The two lads had taken contrasting routes to the title round. While Sunand overpowered Vedanth M Urs in four straight games, Charan was given a serious work-out by Shreyal K Telang before eventually prevailing 11-7, 10-12, 12-10, 11-9, 7-11, 11-4.

Aishwarya R Bidri won the Youth girls’ crown, proving too strong for namesake Aishwarya N in a remarkably one-sided final, cruising to an 11-1, 11-1, 11-7, 11-6 victory.
