Swiss consulate opens in City

“The new consulate aims at promoting trade, investment and tourism,” Ambassador of Switzerland to India Philippe Welti said at an FKCCI event here.

Welti said visas will be issued in the second half of 2012, when the consulate expects to shift to a new building. Till then, services for the region will continue in Mumbai.

The Consulate General in Bangalore will have Rolf Frei as its Consul General, and will integrate Switzerland’s platform for science, technology, innovation and culture cooperation called ‘Swissnex’, headed by Silvia Hostettler.

Presently, Switzerland is represented by its embassy in New Delhi, its consulate generals in Mumbai and Bangalore, and honorary consulates in Chennai and Kolkata.
