Peon with property worth over Rs 1 crore arrested

"Jaga Rao Reddy of Sabaradeipeta village under Jarda police station was arrested by the vigilance police yesterday on the charge of amassing properties disproportionate to his known sources of income," vigilance DSP (Paralakhemundi) S K Mishra said.

During the raids, vigilance sleuths have found seven buildings in his village and ten pieces of homestead land in different places of Ganjam and Ichhapurma in Andhra Pradesh, sources said.

Reddy, who was working as a peon at the check gate since 1985, also possess agriculture land measuring over 15 acres in at least 20 different places of Ganjam district in Orissa and Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh. Besides, he has two gardens in Ichhapuram and Nalabanak in Srikakulam district, they said.

The garden at Nalabanka was purchased by him at Rs 1.96 lakh, the sources said. The vigilance sleuths, however, found little amount of cash and bank balance in his name during the raids
