'Medicos to serve in rural areas'

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a primary health centre (PHC) in Challahalli of Bilikere Hobli in the taluk here on Friday. The PHC is being built at a cost of Rs 78.2 lakh and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Pointing out that every year 4,800 students get their MBBS degree, Ramdas said that there are 2,613 PHCs in the State. He said that two MBBS students would have to serve in a PHC.

Observing that 22.8 per cent of babies born in a month in Belgaum are affected by HIV/
AIDS, Ramdas said that there was a need to improve awareness among people.

He said that D B Kuppe village in H D Kote taluk has received Rs one crore from the Central Government for turning it into a model healthy village.

MLA H P Manjunath, MLC Chikkamadu, District Health Officer Nagaraj Rao and others were present.
