English yakshagana on June 26

The event is being organised in remembrance of the fourth death anniversary of the founder of Yakshanandana Late P V Aithal and will be presided over by MRPL Group General Manager K Lakshminarayana with SDM Law College Principal Dr B K Ravindra as the chief guest. Out of the 17 characters in the play, 12 will be performed by children and 5 by the elders.

Founded by P V Aithal with the objective of reaching Yakshagana to people from various parts of the country, the troupe has successfully performed several shows such as Bramha Kapala, Dakshadwara, Girija Kalyana, Sri Krishna Parijatha, Narakasura Moksha and others under his direction.

After his death, under the guidance of Yakshagana Artistes’ M S Samaga and Venkatramana Aithal, Aithal’s sons have carried forward the work of the troupe.

“Lava Kusha” written in English by Dr P Sathyamoorthy Aithal was performed by little children at the Yakshanandana Makkala Mela. Similarly, “Mahesh Mardhini,” another play written in English by Advocate Santhosh Aithal, was performed at Aithal’s death anniversary on July 7, 2010.

Speaking at the press meet, Dr P Sathyamoorthy Aithal stated that present day people are interested in pop music while no encouragement is given to Yakshagana and Bharatanatyam.

Thus, through this performance, they would like to create interest among the people, he informed.

The troupe has performed in several parts of India such as Mumbai, Chennai, Thiruchi, Nagpur, Bangalore and Kannur, and has been awarded the Lalithakala Poshaka Prashasthi by Mysore Lalithakala Academy.
