The tank will substitute the water necessities of the people in the areas of Viajaynagar, Vidyaratnanagar, Saralabettu, Ananthnagar, Manjushrinagar and Duglipadav. The tank has the capacity to bear as many as 10 lakh litres and is at 15 meters height. The construction work will get over by 6 months.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that the entire CMC areas have been benefited with uninterrupted water supply facilities after adopting Swarna second stage water programme.  The process of water supply is taken through gravitational force without any maintenance cost or power charges. This enabled Udupi CMC to snatch national award for adopting efficient and affordable water supply facilities. There are some problems in some areas owing to low pressure as there is no pumping involved in the water supply process.

The new tank that is being built will solve the problem, he added. He said State BJP government has supported Udupi CMC with adequate funds unlike earlier governments. The Government has allotted Rs 30 crore for two years under special grant benefit. Besides Rs 25 crore has been sanctioned to Udupi CMC on the eve of its platinum jubilee celebrations of which Rs 10 crore has been already released.  The projects for Rs 25 crore have been chalked and are technically approved. The work includes road widening works of Malpe-Padukere stretch constructed at the cost of Rs 7 crore, widening of Gundibailu stretch at the cost of Rs 9 crore and renovation of town hall at the cost of Rs 2 crore, he said.
