Singh had promised the people of Avalahalli in Yelahanka constituency that he would visit them again if the BJP candidate emerges victorious from their segment. The party bagged the seat in the polls. However, it is another matter that a year later the party lost in the Chikkaballapur Lok Sabha polls of which Yelahanka forms a part.

On Friday, Singh kept his promise and visited the village to launch and distribute ‘smart cards’ for booth committee members of the party. Singh will be inaugurating the party’s two-day state executive on Saturday.

Dubbed as the first of its kind in the country, these smart cards are loaded with information such as names of all BJP workers in the booth, names of leaders in the Assembly constituency, their telephone numbers and address, status of various government schemes and programmes. An individual code is also embedded in each card.

Singh distributed the cards to 26 booth committee members. He said the state unit has been successful in constituting 85 per cent booth committee, while the national average was 60 per cent.

“The card will help in better dissemination of information among the party workers. It will be linked to the party website also. If a worker quits the party, his card will be disabled immediately,” Yelahanka MLA S R Vishwanath, who came up with the idea of the smart card, said.
