Karnataka remain within striking distance of claiming overall title

With a strong performance on the third day of the meet, Karnataka stayed within striking distance of claiming the overall championship title along with defending champions Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

The 11-year-old Siva,   the sixth standard student of Mahila Seva Samaja, clocked one minute 13.52 seconds to pocket the Group III boys’ 100M backstroke gold, leaving behind second-placed Souvik Dey of West Bengal by a good four seconds.

Sri Hari claimed the Group IV boys’ 200M individual medley title, touching the wall in 2:51.65.

It was the Global Swimming Association swimmer’s third individual gold after his win in the 50M backstroke and 50M butterfly gold medals on the first two days of the meet.

Damini K Gowda, who trains at the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre, won her second gold when she powered to victory in the Group III girls’ 100M backstroke in one minute 15.00 seconds.

Among other Karnataka swimmers, Sanjay CJ clinched the Group IV boys’ 50M freestyle silver after clocking 31.75 seconds.

While Sanjay’s team-mates Spandan Pratik Rath (Group III boys’ 50M breaststroke) and Manish Chandra V (Group III boys’ butterfly) took home a bronze each.
