Months after having taken power as the District Superintendent of Police, Dr K Tyagarajan is working to improve the condition of traffic movement in Kolar city.

Information demanded

He has instructed the traffic police officers to provide him information on the areas that have the worst conditions as well as the possible solutions to them.

Following his orders, traffic police have submitted a lengthy report on the matter to the DSP.

As a first measure, Dr K Tyagarajan is attempting to implement an experimental measure- converting a couple of main roads in the city into one-ways. This would be supplemented by installation of traffic signals at traffic and pedestrian-heavy circles.

MB Road

The MB Road links Mekke Circle to the starting-point of the connection on Bangalore road to the National Highway 4. The MB Road is crowded with vehicles and pedestrians almost throughout the day- except early morning.

The new bus stand, market, shandy maidan and business complexes are all situation along this main road, which only adds to the problem of congestion.

This is also forcing the police to choose MB Road as the first road to be converted into a one-way.

Decisions required

The questions that follow, however, include the expanse of one-way on the road, the number of days and hours during which the rule should hold good and th kinds of vehicles that should follow the rule, explained the Superintendent, during a conversation with Deccan Herald recently.

“We are all set to install signal lights at Mekke Circle. Installation at other important circles will follow,” the Superintendent added.
