The lake faces extinction due to rampant encroachment and discharge of sewage from a nearby apartment. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Lake Cell officers of the Palike on Tuesday.
Following a series of reports in Deccan Herald on the pathetic condition of the lake, BBMP commissioner Siddaiah, along with a team of Palike officials visited the spot on Sunday.
“It was a beautiful lake. I have visited this place many times. Builders have spoiled it. We will make the builders stop letting sewage water into this lake,” Siddaiah said. He also came to know that a large area of the lake had been encroached upon.
He assured the local residents that a tree park would soon come up where indigenous varieties of trees would be grown.
Many multi-storey apartments, which came up in the vicinity marred the beauty of the water body, which was home to many migratory birds.
