Debt-ridden farmer ends life

Uddappa’s son Hanumantaraya told police that his father had taken a farm loan of Rs one lakh from Pragathi Grameena Bank a year ago and had also borrowed Rs two lakh from a money lender.

Uddappa was unable to repay the loans as the groundnut crop in his farm had failed last year, he said.

This year, too, he had sown groundnut, but was despondent about the prospects of the crop because of poor rains in the district. Abbinahole Police have registered a case.
