COMED-K gets SC nod on medical seats

Last Updated 28 June 2011, 19:05 IST

A Bench of Justices P Sathasivam and A K Patnaik allowed a plea made by Karnataka’s private medical and dental colleges association, seeking permission to take admission to PG medical courses but directed the association to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

The court directed COMED-K to submit a list of the admitted candidates to it on June 30, and said admission to all 41 seats would be subject to the final outcome of the case pending before the court.

The MCI alleged that private colleges were flouting admission norms and demanding donation from candidates. The regulatory body also accused colleges of admitting students not on merit.

The Karnataka High Court last month had permitted private medical colleges to admit candidates in accordance with the seat-matrix prepared by COMED-K and not as insisted by the State’s Department of Medical Education.
