A meeting was held at Taluk Panchayat hall under the presidentship of MLA C T Ravi. During the meeting the members of various parties and organisations said that they will come out on streets and fight for their demand.

As first step of the struggle, it was decided to meet the CM and the President of Hasan Milk Producers’ Federation. The meet decided to form more and more Milk producers’ co-operative society in the district. The MLA promised to provide all the help from the Government for laying of the Milk Route.

“There are some technical problems in the district with regard to formation of the Federation. We need to address those issues. There is a need to have a resolution at the Hasan Federation meeting with regard to formation of Federation in Chikmagalur.

Hence the Directors from the district need to work on this regard. Once the meet resolves, then there is no problem in formation of the separate federation,” Ravi said adding that if Hasan Federation does not support this demand, then there is a need to stage non-cooperation movement against them.

Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme District Director B Jayaram Nellithaya said that subsidy will be provide for purchase of 10,000 cattle and the organization will also undertake survey work for the proposed milk route.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike District President Thegur Jagadish said that the people from villages like Thegur find it difficult to get the milk to cities for sale. With the separate federation, large chunk of people will be benefited.

Veeranna from Tarikere taluk said that cattle rearing bring a lot of peace of mind to the farmers because it has the potential to supplement the income of the farmers. He said that if the federation is formed, the sale of milk to places outside the district can be curbed.

CPI District Secretary B Ajmad said that political fights and differences prevented formation of a separate federation in the district. He promised to support any apolitical struggle in this regard. ZP former member Ramaswamy said that one lakh litre milk can be produced in Koppa taluk alone if the Federation is set up. He said that milk produced in and around Birur is being sold to Chithradurga. Due to this farmers are incurring losses.

ZP Vice-President Ranganath farmers hit by corp loss have been migrating to other regions hence formation of Federation is inevitable as there is a need to stop this migration.
