Despite Indian IT/ITES workforce hiring nearly 6.5 lakhs of women in the last four years, which is 26 per cent amongst the 2.5 million strong employee base, industry leaders who spoke at the conference expressed concern over the lesser number of women at the mid-rung and the top level managements of the companies.

“We’re seeing the result of (NASSCOM) initiatives to increase women employees in the industry, which has shown the results, but unfortunately we’ve a  lot of grounds to cover in terms of including women at the top leadership… NASSCOM’s Regional Director Sucharita Eashwar told the audience -largely comprising of HR managers from the industry- on Thursday.

Consultant from diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Geetha Kannan said the thinning workforce at the mid and top rung in the industry is reflective of the dropout figures at the schools. Others also emphasised the need for removing obstacles and giving women an enabling environment.
