Four jumbos, including two male, one female and a calf, were camping in the maize farm of Mariyappa. The farmers had a tough time trying to chase the elephants away.
With people assembling around the farm to have a glimpse of the elephants, chasing them away became all the more difficult.

Tahsildar N C Jagadish and the police team led by Sub Inspector Nataraju had a harrowing time dispersing the crowd. Though the forest officials managed to chase away the pachyderms from the farm at Naganahalli by 11 am, after repeated efforts by bursting crackers, they entered the sugarcane field of Sannegowda at Sheeranahundi, through Machanayakanahalli.

At this stage, one of the elephants flung Chandregowda (40), who was in the field, to the ground with its tusk. He was seriously injured and has been admitted to the K R Hospital in Mysore, after first aid at the H D Kote government hospital.

Assistant Conservator of Forests Thammaiah, Range Forest Officers Praveen Kumar, Santosh Nayak, their staff and the police were making efforts till the evening to chase the jumbos away to the forest.
