Rao assured a delegation of Board members, which submitted memmorandum to him recently, that the Board has plans to recommend the government to make growers free from the clutches of loans. He said that the Board will urge the Centre to provide atleast 70 per cent subsidy to small and micro farmers for the purchase of sprayers and other farm equipment.

The delegation explained that the yield in coffee plantations was decreased considerably due to berry borer and other pest attacks. Several small and micro farmers, who borrowed money from banks, had committed suicide due to decrease in the yield. Coffee growers should also be included in the complete loan and interest waiver scheme, they demanded. Board member Udayashankar led the delegation which include H E Rudregowda, Doddamagaravalli Ashoka, Kataradahalli Moorthi, D M Sujay and Havvalli Kusha.
