However, there has been no progress on the construction of the building, and the site is being used as a dumping ground.

District Congress Committee President Ashwathanarayana Reddy had laid the foundation stone for the Congress Bhavan nine years ago. Betamangala legislator C Venkateshappa, Minister of State for Mines and Geology V Muniyappa, MP K H Muniyappa and TMC President K M Narayanaswamy had participated in the programme.

Works were progressing at good pace for a while, and the foundation was laid. Now, the site serves as a temporary cattle shed, and dumping ground.

The Betamangala  Assembly constituency boasts of many influential leaders, both at the State and local levels.

However, local Congress leaders bemoan the fact that none of this seems to have helped the work on the Congress Bhavan go further.

The workers also complain that the lack of progress in works has not been noted by leaders K H Muniyappa, who has been elected to the Lok Sabha for the fifth consecutive time, legislator M Narayanaswamy, KPCC member M Ramachandra, TMC president Shamshuddin Babu, etc.

When several party workers had raised the issue of non-completion of the Bhavan at a convention, MLC Nazeer Ahmed had promised to provide funds for the construction. However, it is said that no work has begun.

Workers now say that it is imperative to have a Congress Building, since it will provide them with a much-needed space for holding meetings, and for leaders to accept workers’ petition.
