'Palike using substandard material'

Last Updated 14 July 2011, 19:17 IST

According to the report, of the 346 projects undertaken from 2010, only 85 works
were certified to be of good quality.

Quoting the report, leader of the Opposition in BBMP, M Udayshankar, said the Palike was looting the tax payers.

The Quality Control Cell has found engineers using filtered sand for a Rs 10-crore work related to improvement of drains, footpaths and asphalting of roads from Hope Farms Circle in  Whitefield to Channasandra in Mahadevpura BBMP zone.

The contractors and engineers from the BBMP have allowed the use of filtered sand, poor quality stone and substandard cement,  he alleged.

Blaming the deputed engineers for the shabby work, Udayshankar appealed to the Palike Commissioner to look into the quality of projects.

The Congress leader asked the BBMP to not pay the contractors who have executed the projects that are under the scanner for poor quality.
