After having spent nearly 24 hours atop a tree on Sankey Road, Brikesh Singh and Shivalinga, volunteers of Green Peace, met the First Citizen.

Speaking to reporters, Singh quoted Sharadamma as saying that the Sankey Road widening issue was subjudice and BBMP could not respond to the request for holding a public consultation.

The volunteers submitted a list of names of 3,000 people who had joined them in opposing the Sankey Road-widening project.  They appealed to the Palike to convene a special council session for discussing the issue.

They also demanded that the road-widening projects along other stretches, including Tannery Road, Mission Road and Kacharakanahalli Road,  be taken up only after public consultations. The BBMP had identified 217 roads for widening, but due to resistance from residents it dropped the idea.

But, the Palike is hellbent on widening Sankey Road, arguing that a signal-free corridor from Cauvery Theatre junction to Yeshwantpur is needed.
