DC launches 'Aadhaar' in Udupi dist

The aim is to issue the Unique ID to 10 lakh citizens by October, says DC

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju said that it has been decided to provide Aadhaar to atleast 10 lakh persons by the end on October.

The Aadhaar scheme is successful in Mysore and Tumkur. It has also been launched in Gulbarga, Belgaum and other places. The service has been started in Udupi head post office and will be extended to other post office. The scheme will be in vogue for three years.

He said UIDAI is essential in the country. With internet and other modern technology, postal department has been losing its identity in the last 10 years. By taking up several programmes, the postal department should reach out to the people.

The first UIDAI was given to Jayakar Shetty Indrali. Superintendet of Post Rajashekar Bhat spoke.

How to apply?

Persons desiring to have this UIDAI have to present the prescribed application form duly filled, to the post office along with identity proof. The counter assistant after verifying the application will issue a token.

The applicant will have to wait for enrolling, which involves a process of capturing biometric information such as 10 fingerprints and iris of the eye.

The cards will be dispersed to the application in 45 days. There will be no redundancy in data entry because the data will be fed to the central server where the fingerprints and iris print will be stored. In case of repetition in the data, that application will not be processed.
