The farmers in the villages located on the border of Western Ghats have been tormented by jumbo raids for over a decade.

Two wild elephants, which strayed into plantations in Achchanahalli, Bilisaare and other nearby villages, have destroyed crops worth lakhs of rupees in the past two days.

A team of range forest officer and forest guards made futile attempts to drive away the pachyderms.

They were fed too

The villagers gheraoed the staff saying that they won’t allow them to leave the village till the jumbos were driven away. They even provided food to the forest staff.

Police made a bid to convince the agitated farmers. The forest staff were in ‘detention’ till 7 pm.
