The reservation has to be implemented by all colleges affiliated to the university — two seats each in graduate and diploma courses and one seat each in all post-graduation courses. The university would consider the students under this category at par with other backward classes (OBC) and extend all benefits applicable to them.

The students would get 50 per cent concession in admission and other fees. As most of the students born to sexually exploited parents or commercial sex workers do not know either one or both parents, they would not know their caste.

But mentioning caste is mandatory for claiming benefits of reservation in educational institutions. Now, these students could mention ‘Indian’ in the caste column and avail the benefits.

Odanadi, an NGO, has been fighting for reservation for such children for the past 21 years.
So the reservation would initially be available for those students who get certified by Odanadi. But, it would be available to all later, said vice chancellor V G Talwar.
