Intricate creativity on display

Since its inception in 1982, the Lepakshi Handicrafts Emporium (Andra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, Hyderabad) has been working to promote handicrafts, to undertake establish showrooms, exhibitions to popularise handcrafted items.

The corporation markets the production of over two lakh artisans through a network of 14 sales emporia with the trade nama ‘Lepakshi’.

It regularly procures local crafts at fair prices after examining the skills of the artisans and quality of the products. It also organises exhibitions in various prominent places all over the country to popularise traditional crafts and to help craftsperson increase their earnings by way of sale of these exhibitions.

The Corporation invites artisans and crafts persons to demonstrate and sell their productions directly to customers.  The Corporation organises training programmes in selected crafts in brass art metal ware, Nirmal paintings, Batik paintings, silver
filigree and Cheriyala paintings .

And every year, around 100 craftsperson have benefited from these programmes.
The Corporation also sanctions old age pension to deserving and economically poor craftspeople in the State.
