The Bangalore School of Music (BSM) in association with the Alliance Francaise presented A Celebrity Recital Concert by international artistes featuring Ladislav Brozman on violin and Riccardo Carlotto (Pushkar) on piano recently.

Pushkar, a resident of Auroville, teacher and researcher in the area of composition along with Ladislav, fellow teacher and composer, also a resident of Pondicherry performed to a packed house. Many music lovers who walked into the Alliance in the hope of purchasing tickets at the last minute were disappointed.

The duo performed Bach’s Sonata in E-Major BWV 1016, Beethoven’s Sonata Number 9 Op 47 (Kreutzer), G Pugnani - Kreisler, Praeludium and Allegro, J Suk’s Appassionato Op 17 Number 2 and one of Pushkar’s original compositions titled Piece on violin and piano.

The skill of the musicians was evident in not just their mastery of the pieces but in its beautiful interpretations. Their rendition of Beethoven’s Sonata Number 9 was deft, tight and very appealing.

Pushkar’s composition for violin and piano was intricate. Brozman described the piece as having a ‘tango atmosphere’ reminding one of Argentina. Speaking on the choice of pieces, he said, “We are from a spiritual background so we are into meditation. The pieces by Bach and Beethoven have a certain mediative quality about them. The other three pieces played after the interval were more worldly. The last song was Pushkar’s own composition. I really like it.”

The audience seemed to have enjoyed themselves as well. The applause was loud and the artistes received a standing ovation. Asked if they are affected by the adoration and their opinion of the concert, Brozman said, “I’m fully engaged in the concert but we still play for the audience. We want to satisfy the audience. It feels nice when they are.”

The expression on the faces of music lovers as they streamed out proved that the artistes had much to feel proud about.
