In the special meeting held here on Wednesday, the members of the opposition party were not willing to discuss the issues mentioned in the special meeting notice. They demanded the issues to be discussed at the budget meeting, which will be held on August 12. But president M Prakash tried to convince the members saying that the issues were important which needs immediate discussion.

The meeting approved construction of mini market, garbage bins, purchase of auto-tipper, hand cart with the SFC grants. It also agreed to asphalt the roads in the City and to pay due to the tankers, which supplied drinking water during the previous year.

The meeting also gave its consent to appoint staff to the drinking water supply department of the CMC, on contract basis and to repair the trolley used to transport the garbage, which are in dilapidated condition.

The special meet also nodded to auction the materials in the CMC which are not used anymore.

Tri-cycle, computers, sports materials will be distributed to the beneficiaries, using the remaining funds under the 18 per cent scheme.

A heated argument followed over the speech by the senior member Rafiq.
