The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by the petitioner Bhimappa and others, who had moved the High Court against the pollution due to the quarry near the Rameshwara lift irrigation across Ghataprabha river. The order was issued by the division bench headed by Chief Justice P D Dinakaran.
Counsel for the petitioner Y N Nagaraj, said that the Rs 218.42 crore lift irrigation project is near completion and over 305 acres of land was meant for grazing. But the quarry had polluted over 13,000 hectares of land, said the petitioners, who sought for directions to prevent the pollution.
