JOIN USAddressing the meet, Ombudsman Sheena Shetty said that MGNREGS must find place in the Zilla Panchayat Action Plan as a priority chapter.
“If this scheme is taken on priority basis, only then it can be a success,” said Shetty adding that the action plan must be approved in December every year and next three months must be utilized for preparation for implementation of Action Plan. Implementation must happen from April 1 onwards every year.
“If this is done, then it will help in effective utilization of funds as well,” he said.
The Ombudsman stressing on the necessity for having information board in every GP on the execution of MGNREGS works, said that he will initiate action against the GPs failing to do the same.
He said that out of 203 GPs, 141 GPs have started works while 61 GPs have not yet started. As many as 91,518 job cards have been distributed in the district so far. Deputy Secretary Shivrame Gowda said that fault in the action plan will be reflected during execution of work. Hence, action plan must be prepared meticulously.
Jana Shikshana Trust Director Krishna Moolya said that despite several works already been done under MGNREGS, there is lack of awareness at a certain level.
There is a need to create models using the scheme and extend it to other parts of the district. Some of the GPs which have implemented the scheme successfully spoke at length about the works undertaken.The participants said that such meetings must be held at taluk-level.
