5 killed in cracker factory fire in Karnal district

The fire broke out at around 6.30 pm, an official spokesman said, adding, the injured were rushed to different hospitals in Karnal, while the five bodies have been sent for post mortem.

The cause of fire could not be ascertained and investigations are on, he said.
Around 100 workers work in the Kumar Fireworks factory, but today being a public holiday due to Janamashtami, local workers were not on duty. Still 60-70 other labourers were inside the factory preparing material for making crackers.

Immediately after getting the information about the tragedy, Karnal Deputy Commissioner Neelam Pradeep Kasni rushed to the local Trauma Centre and ensured that the injured were treated properly.

Fire engines reached the site immediately and controlled the fire within an hour.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has expressed shock and grief over the incident and sent condolences to the members of the bereaved families.
