These programmes are designed for those who want to become specialist economists and pursue a career in which economics is an essential input.

The School of Social Sciences offers 27 undergraduate and 39 postgraduate programmes. Teaching and research expertise of the School covers ageing, demography, economics, international relations, politics, social policy, social work, sociology, and statistics.

Under Economics the School offers the following three postgraduate programmes:
*MSc Economics: It provides advanced training in economic analysis and offers a wide range of optional subjects.

*MSc Economics and Econometrics: It is designed for students with a particular interest in the more quantitative aspects of the subject and is one of the few courses in the UK to offer specialist training in advanced econometric techniques and their application.

*MSc Finance and Economics: It is designed to equip students with the specialist skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a career at a high level within the financial sector. Within the undergraduate degree programmes, the University offers the following courses:

*Economics and Management Sciences: This degree provides an opportunity to focus on the application of both economic principles and management science in the context of business organisations.

*Economics and Finance: The course combines units in economics with the analysis of financial markets and institutions. It is particularly appropriate for anyone looking for a riorous understanding of the world of finance.

*Economics and Actuarial Science: It is taught in conjunction with Social Statistics, and is administered by Economics.  It provides an excellent preparation for a variety of careers in quantitative finance.

*Politics and Economics: The programme offers you the opportunity to acquire a thorough grounding in the core areas of the disciplines of Economics and Politics.

*Economics and Philosophy: The programme has a mixture of compulsory and optional units, enabling you to plan a programme which reflects your own interests and ambitions.

*Mathematics with Economics: It provides training in mathematics and economics which is highly regarded by business, commerce and government and is an excellent background to any student intending to become an accountant or an actuary.

*Master in Economics (4 years, full time): It allows the student to study Economics in depth and helps the student to understand the core areas of economics.
