There is a need to remove the curse of poverty and it can only happen if one gives back to the society he said.<br /><br />Indians have multiple identities and language is the heart of this identity as it binds people, he said and advised students to be innovative, lateral thinkers and change bringers.<br /><br />Rayan International MD Grace Pinto advised students to think high, act big and achieve big. Ganesh Beedi Works MD Jagannath Shenoy told students to be proud of their surnames and advised parents to make their children speak in their mother tongue.<br />Gurudath Bantwalkar was felicitated on presenting a paper in Israel about developing script transliteration pluggin for Wikipedia, so as to enable content generation in Konkani Language on the Web.<br /><br />Speaking on the occasion, Corporation Bank General Manager B R Bhat said WKC and Corporation Bank has tied up for a loan scheme.<br /><br />It will finance educational courses of three, four and five years and will also review the progress of the students. Students who get scholarships from WKC can refer their scholarship number at any branch of Corporation bank and apply for loan. <br /><br />Even tuition loans are given especially to those appearing for CAT, MAT and CET, he said.<br />Scholarships worth Rs 1 crore were distributed to over 300 Engineering and MBBS students from economically backward families of Konkani Communities. VKSSF has successfully raised and distributed Rs 50 lakhs to 162 deserving Konkani speaking students in the year 2010.<br /><br />This year Rs 25 lakh was given to Siddhi Community in North Karnataka as scholarships for High School students. A sum of Rs 10,000 will be given to students of PUC especially in North Karnataka and Kerala</p>.<p>WKC to train 5,000 youth<br />Addressing a press meet, VKSSF Chairman Ramdas Kamath said WKC also plans to train 5,000 Konkani Youth in the year 2010-2013 with ‘Kshamata’, employable skill programme for Konkani youth. Kshamata imparts training for students who are on a verge of graduation to equip them with modern human resource training such as communication, leadership and soft skills.<br />WKC has conceived a mentoring programme, to develop the innate potential of Konkani youth. Beneficiaries can establish relationship with mentors to provide counseling for education, personal and career related issues, he said. </p>
