Recently, Surana College too held an innovative management fest, ‘Surge 11 – Redefining Oneself’, where students got a practical experience of what is being taught inside the classrooms.

Organised by the second year BBM students, this intra-department fest provided a platform for the first year students to showcase their potential in the professional world. Speaking at the inauguration, the chief guest, Subramanyam, CEO of Ascent Consulting Pvt Ltd, said, “The youngsters today have a better career option in all areas of management than what they had ten years ago.” He then added that the students have to make good use of fests like these to get a hands on experience and later, aim towards becoming better employees.

With a theme like ‘Egyptian Mythology’, the organising committee thought of designing each event according to the characteristics of the popular Greek gods. For example, the finance event was named ‘Sobek’, the human resource event was named ‘Hapi’, ‘Aker’ was for Marketing and similarly, the best manager event was named after the most superior god ‘Ra’. “Every Greek god has a unique personality and so did our events. That’s why we thought of imbibing the theme accordingly to each event,” said Vinay, a second year student, who was a part of the organising team.

One of the most interesting and unique events was the marketing event, ‘Aker’. The task required the participants to go to the Bangalore Central in Jayanagar and buy and sell products in a span of one hour. “The catch was that each team was given Rs 50 out of which, the team that made the most profit won,” explained Naveen, another student. Ultimately, it was Shalini and Siddarth, who had made a profit of Rs 310, who won the task.

The challenge of the day was to be ‘Ra’ or the best manager of the event. The rounds were stressful and the tasks that each of the representative had to overcome were even tougher. Finally, Banupriya was crowned as the ‘Ra’ of the fest. “I never thought I would emerge as the winner of the best manager event. Having gone through all of the tests, I thought it was an amazing experience which not only boosted my confidence but also tested my patience and management skills. Now I feel I am more prepared and more aware of my abilities in different areas of management,” she added.
