In a letter to the Union Minister, the chief minister said a total of 1.21 lakh metric tonnes (MTs) of fertilisers are scheduled to be transported from Kakinada and Krishnapatnam ports of Andhra Pradesh in the coming days.

“I request you to instruct the concerned to ensure that sufficient rakes are allotted to the fertiliser companies for transporting the fertilisers,” the Chief Minister stated.

The Centre has allocated about 4.48 lakh MTs of fertilisers to Karnataka for August 2011. Another 5.03 MTs of fertilisers are required during September, 2011. For transporting the allocated stock, a total number of 366 rakes are required. Of this, 75 rakes with 1,96,344 MTs of fertilisers have already been dispatched to the State.

As many as 291 more rakes are required for the remaining part of August and September, the chief minister stated.
