Sampangi case: Farooq seeks mercy killing

Last Updated 30 August 2011, 17:20 IST

Farooq, who was in the news for helping the Lokayukta nab Sampangi red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs five lakh to help him (Farooq) in a criminal case, says he is now regretting his decision to fight corruption.

Threat
The police officers and the State government are harassing him right from the day the Lokayukta raid happened. Since suicide is illegal, he has sought permission for euthanasia, says Farooq’s letter to the President, dated August 26.

The letter, a copy of which is with Deccan Herald, says: “I am being mentally harassed for the last two-and-half years in a bid to shield the MLA.”

Two senior police officers had tried to attack him and his family members, besides trying to damage properties, the letter says. Three other cops have also been named in the letter.

“The High Court has asked the police and the Home secretary to provide protection to me, my family members and our property. The main accused in the case had been kidnapped and asked to give evidence against the prosecution,” says the letter.

He said he preferred death to giving false evidence. But the case continues due to the interest shown by former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde and former Lokayukta SP Madhukar Shetty, Farooq’s letter says.

Copies of the letter have been sent to the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of the High Court, the registrar and the special Lokayukta judge.
