A trader, M T Nanjundaswamy told Deccan Herald that the idols were brought from different places for sale, but the low turnout proved a loss for them.

Reason: Increase in supply. The idols were sold only in the select shops till last year. However, now the idols are available in every nook and corner of the town. If the idols are not sold, they dump them on footpaths, he added.

Large scale pay
“We are into selling Ganesha idols for the past 35 years. The small size of idol that cost Rs five is being now sold for Rs 25 while the large-sized would cost up to Rs 9,000.

The associations celebrating festivals in their layouts on large scale pay in advance for the big idols,” Nanundaswamy said.
