Privilege notice stings Kejriwal

Speaking with reporters, Bhushan said: “I have received the notice and will respond to it. I stand by my statement and don’t think it amounts to breach of privilege.”

The renowned lawyer was served notice for alleging that Members of Parliament take bribes to pass laws. Bhushan has been asked to file a reply by September 14.

Terming the notice as “totally unjustified”, he said that “speaking the truth in public interest does not amount to breach of privilege”.

“If speaking truth in public interest amounts to breach of privilege, then time has come for the country to review the whole notion of parliamentary privileges,” he said.

Former cop Kiran Bedi had already received privilege notice for accusing politicians of wearing “several masks”. 

Affirming that she stood by whatever she had said, Bedi said on Friday, “If I get an opportunity, I will go before the Committee and will show a bigger mirror to Parliament.”

Meanwhile, Kejriwal, to whom the notice was sent through speed-post at his residence in Ghaziabad, could not be reached for comment.
