Last Updated 06 September 2011, 19:24 IST

The Karnataka Wakfs Protection Joint Action Committee has opposed reinstatement of Khan into the board. Khan was one of the 12 board members disqualified from contesting elections, after the Corps of Detectives (CoD) began investigating into alleged irregularities and mismanagement.

M J Ali, General Secretary of the committee, alleged that Khan used influence and misled the election officer to include him in the new board.

The committee, which has filed a petition with the High Court, has decided to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Governor also, urging them to take action within 10 days. The Board owns the largest extent of land in the State, after the Defence and the Railways. According to one of the committee members, Mohammad Ilyas, the State Wakfs owns 14,000 acres. Currently, the government is surveying the 164 verified lands.
