BPL card holders line up to open accounts

Among the aspirants of BPL card most of them are elderly people and illiterates. There was a long queue of people, which stretched beyond the road. The residents who got the application, either did not bring the necessary documents or were struggling to fill the application.

They did not even have information about the documents which were compulsory. As the queue was moving slowly, the elderly people just sat on the ground. Some people were found helping others to fill the application.

Government order

There has been a government order for people below poverty line to open an account in the post office within september to send the money to the beneficiaries directly to their accounts.

Documents

According to the rule, the aspirants of the BPL card should have two passport size photographs, photocopy of the BPL card, identity card and filled application form with minimum of Rs 50 submitted in the post office, they can open the account.

Lack of staff

“More than 3,000 people hold BPL card in the city. In the taluk there are more than 15,000 residents with BPL card. But to help open the account only two people have been appointed, who have to work till night. As there is lack of staff the process in getting slow and the people have to wait for long hours” said Post Office Official Nandishwarappa, speaking to deccan Herald.
