Lokayukta team warns authorities

Raids on hospitals: Upa Lokayukta Justice R Gururajan takes doctors to task

During his visit to the most backward village of the taluk, Gururajan went to the hospital and interacted with patients in each ward.

He stopped near the department of doctor treating the patients in emergency ward for snakebite and suicide attempts. He gathered details about the toilets, labour wards, wards for women and men, medical equipment and other facilities.

He also sought information from the district medical officer, Dr Bhaktavatsalam, about the under-construction building that was taken up after it was upgraded to a 100-bed hospital.

He directed them to initiate action against the contractor for delay in completing the work.

He also noticed that the allowances for pregnant women were not distributed properly and charged the staff concerned. He asked them to send the action taken report within a week.

Patients alleged that they were asked to pay Rs 1,300 for ambulance service.

However, the staff of the hospital seemed to have been on alert mode on the visit of the Upa-Lokayukta. For, the toilets were unusually clean and so was the entire premises of the hospital. Name boards had appeared on the walls of each department.

Lokayukta S P Krishnappa, Tahsildar T A Hanumantharaya, district medical officer Dr Bhaktavatsalam, taluk medical officer Dr Renuka and administrative officer Dr Siraj Madani were present on the occasion .
