But, the policemen managed to escape. Sources said Rathnakar Shetty and Suhail detained Noor Ahmed, who runs a sewing machine shop at Shivajinagar, on September 2 for allegedly buying stolen goods and seized 45 sewing machines from him.
They kept him in illegal detention for three days, tortured him and demanded Rs five lakh to set him free. Noor Ahmed managed to bring Rs 50,000 and came out of custody on September 4.

He approached the Lokayukta police, who laid a trap to arrest the two.
Accordingly, Noor Ahmed called the inspector over the phone with a recorder and told him that he would be able to pay only Rs 60,000 more.

The inspector asked him to bring Rs 75,000 on Wednesday.

Based on the telephone conversations, the Lokayukta police filed an FIR against the inspector and the constable, the sources added.

But, the two suspected a raid and managed to escape before the Lokayukta police, led
by DSP Ahad, reached the spot. The Lokayukta police tried to trace them over walkie-talkie and cellphones, but in vain.

The Lokayukta police recorded the statements of the policemen, who confirmed that the inspector illegally detained Noor Ahmed and demanded Rs five lakh from him.
