Volvo bus runs over tent, kills 1

The incident occurred at around 7.10 am on Thursday. Sources from police station said that the deceased has been identified as Sangappa, aged 23 years, a resident of the slum. It is said that the mishap occurred when the Bangalore-Udupi Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus (Airavata) driver tried to avoid collission against a private bus coming in the opposite direction and in the bargain, the bus driver lost control over the bus and ran over the slum dwellings, situated adjacent to the national highway.

Sangappa was crushed under the bus and two others Durga and Savitha were severely injured in the mishap.

It is said that five persons in the tent had left for work, minutes before the bus ran over their dwellings. If the accident had occurred a few minutes ago, the death toll would have gone up.

Four passengers in the bus too sustained injuries in the mishap. A case has been registered in Kaup police station.
