Theatre deaths; manager held

B Venkat Pratap, Manager of Sri Lakshmi Talkies, was arrested under Section 304-A of IPC (causing death by negligence) and a police party has been sent to arrest theatre owner P Nageswara Rao who is still at large, Parvathipuram ASP Ravi Krishna said.

Five people were electrocuted and 11 others sustained burns following a stampede near the ticket booking counter as desperate fans jostled against one another to buy tickets for the newly released Telugu film “Magadheera” starring megastar Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja.

“The fans came in contact with a live wire near the window of the booking counter and got electrocuted,” the police officer said.

Meanwhile, Panchayat Raj Minister Botsa Satyanarayana visited those undergoing treatment at Government Hospital in Vizianagaram and consoled the family members of the deceased.

The Minister provided an immediate relief of Rs 5,000 each to the victim’s kin and also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50,000 under the Apath Bandhu Scheme.
