Tribal hurt as forest personnel open fire

The injured tribal has been identified as Bheemasena of Hunasekuppe hamlet, who  
received a bullet on his right leg. He has been shifted to K R Hospital in the city for further treatment.

According to the forest personnel, Bheemasena, his brother Kunta and others were involved in  illegal activity. Upon noticing the personnel, the tribals resorted to launch an attack on the staff members forcing the latter to open fire in the air to disperse them.

Following the incident, enraged tribals barged into the range  forest office at Antarasanthe.

Local MLA Chikkanna has demanded for the arrest of forest officers within Saturday, for their callousness. Speaking to Deccan Herald the legislator alleged that the forest officers have deliberately shot at the tribals involved in fishing. Earlier, he met the injured and enquired about his health.

Wife killer jailed

A man convicted of murdering his wife has been sentenced to  life imprisonment.
Public prosecutor of second additional district and sessions court K Govindaraju, in a release stated the accused Afroz Pasha alias Roshan had married Mubeen Taj whom he was harassing for dowry.

On May 15, 2009 the harassment took a violent turn when Afroz set his wife ablaze after pouring kerosene. Mubeen Taj admitted for burns at a hospital had succumbed later.
Judge of the court S Y Hirannavar also sentenced the convict to three years imprisonment for harassing the victim.

Both the sentence had to be served in concurrence, the release added.

Sentenced for rape

In another case, the same court sentenced a man convicted of kidnapping and raping a minor girl to 15 years imprisonment. Balu alias Babu of Pakshirajapura had allegedly kidnapped the girl on February 28, 2010. Following a complaint from the parents, the Hunsur police had traced the girl to Kerala and had arrested the accused.

In a split verdict, the court awarded seven months imprisonment and Rs 2000 fine for rape and, five years and Rs 2000 for kidnap and three years and another Rs 2000 for illegal confinement.
