Govt hostels to get CCTV, biometric attendance

To plug pilferage and irregularities, the government is mulling on fixing CCTV camera and having biometric attendance for staff and students in social welfare department hostels, said minister for social welfare A Narayanswamy.

Talking to reporters during his surprise visit to pre-matriculation boys’ hostel here on Sunday, he said the government was aware of a lot of irregularities happening in hostels and had come out with a plan to introduce biometric system. The department has also completed the process of recruitment of 300 wardens for hostels across the state. Soon, all 300 vacant posts would be filled, he said.

He said the department’s increased vigilance has alerted officers in-charge of hostels. The Saval Shoshanna Abhiyaan has enabled the government to open schools in all villages.

Distribution of cycles has also brought down the number of school drop outs. Social welfare department would initiate measures to ensure that hotel inmates get quality food, he stated.

The minister was accompanied by MP R Dhruvanarayan, MLC G N Nanjundaswamy, R Narendra, former MLA Parimala Nagappa, S Jayanna, chairman of Ambedkar Development Authority A R Krishnamurthy, ZP member Chandrakala Bai and others.
